I’ve written a letter to Camden Council on behalf of the three Hampstead Town councillors in response to Camden’s consultation on changes to Hampstead High Street, which the Council and Transport for London have proposed.
The most contentious of the proposed changes is the removal of the zebra crossing from Oriel Place to Flask Walk. However, the letter also addresses the diagonal crossing at the junction, the change in the number of westbound lanes, and parking at Greenhill.
Moreover, it expresses the absolutely necessity for Camden and Transport for London to abide by the Hampstead Forum’s requirements for traffic abatement. That is, where schemes attract more traffic to Hampstead, they must be offset by the securing of planning obligations that reduce traffic elsewhere in Hampstead. No such proposals have been included in this scheme, which makes them inappropriate.
